The 5-Minute Morning Ritual That Rewired My Money Story

I used to check my bank balance the way you check a wound — quickly, flinching, hoping it looked better than yesterday. Every morning began with that tiny jolt of not enough, and ended with the same thought: "MONEY IS THE CAUSE OF EVERY PROBLEM IN MY LIFE."

Little did I know, that thought wasn't even mine. It was a borrowed belief — a program engraved into my subconscious since childhood, running on autopilot.

And it kept me broke, quietly and efficiently. I watched my clients slide from paying abundantly, to asking for discounts, to asking my price and never returning at all. Years of this left me burnt out, exhausted, and stuck. And believe me when I say — at one point I had exactly ₹20 in my account. I borrowed from a friend just to get groceries. Of course I did — I was never a quitter. But I was tired of surviving.

The day it hit me

The realization didn't come from a book. It came from a room full of people.

I was in a group sitting one day, just listening, when I noticed something. Statement after statement about money — and every single one was negative:

"Money is the sole problem of humanity." "Money makes people evil." "Rich people lose all compassion." "Money makes you greedy." "I'm fine the way I am."

Money this. Money that.

Sitting there, it hit me hard: these weren't observations. These were inheritances.

I knew mine instantly. I grew up in a house of constant arguments and clashes over property and wealth — so somewhere, a little girl decided that money ruins relationships. I watched my parents struggle to build a life of ease, so I stopped asking for things and became the easy, non-demanding one. And underneath it all sat one core belief: money must always be hard-earned. No wonder I was drained to the core — always in survival, never allowed to relax. The shame, the guilt, the fear... I was carrying a lot.

My money story had been written before I was ten. And I had been reading that same old script every morning of my adult life.

It was never money that was the problem. It was the story underneath the numbers.

So I tried something different. I changed one thing. Not my income. Not my budget. Five minutes, before my chai went cold — and within a month, money stopped feeling like an enemy I owed something to. It wasn't a lucky cluster of days. It was consistency that brought the results.

The Five Minutes

Here's exactly what I did every morning — and what I now teach my clients. No hour-long routine. Just five minutes, in order, before the day gets its hands on you.

Minute 1 — Land in your body, not your phone. Before touching your phone, place one hand on your heart. Three slow breaths — inhale for 4, exhale for 6. That's it. You're teaching your nervous system that the day begins with you, not with whatever the screen decides.

Minutes 2–3 — One line of truth, one line of thanks. First, one line of truth — anything, even bitter. Write it downnnnn, or simply name it. Then write: "Money is a conversation, and today I speak kindly." And one thing money quietly did for you yesterday — the chai, the bus ride, the recharge that let you call your mother. We're not thanking wealth. We're noticing that money already shows up for us daily — we've just been too busy flinching to see it.

Minute 4 — Look at the number like a number. Now open your bank balance. Read it the way you'd read the time: information, not a verdict. No sighing, no shame, no story. The first week, this is the hardest minute. By week three, it's the most freeing one.

Minute 5 — Ask. Write one small sentence: "Today, I am open to…" — and finish it honestly. Not "a crore by Friday." Something your body can believe: a new inquiry, an idea, an unexpected kindness. We're not demanding. We're leaving the door unlocked.

That's it. Five minutes. The chai is still warm.

What actually changed

Not the balance — not at first. What died first was the flinch. Then, without that morning jolt of not enough, my decisions got calmer: I quoted my real price without apologizing. I stopped chasing clients who haggled.

I won't pretend it was pretty. There were days I felt like a slug, sure it wasn't working. I cried myself to sleep more than once, with no one around to show me the way forward. But I kept showing up — for myself, and for the routine.

And then one day, the phone rang. A client, out of nowhere, asking if I still offered abundance coaching — and signing up the instant I said yes.

Money — quietly, almost politely — had started coming back.

This ritual is Day 4 of my book, 21 Days · Become a Magnet of Miracles — twenty-one days of small practices exactly like this one. If five minutes moved something in you, imagine three weeks. It's open for pre-order now — arriving August 15.
